HAHM, HARD Haunted Mansion, GDE Let's You Know Where We Stand

This Halloween, HARD'S fall spectacle boasts one of their strongest lineups yet. Straying away from the usual fodder for the dinnerplate eyed masses, Destructo and his team are bringing some of the most progressive and cutting edge artists in electronic music today to the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles. Here's our picks for the best of the best from this year's Haunted Mansion 2011 selection:

GASLAMP KILLER:

Who would of thought an accidental late addition to an event could be so insane. At the very tip of the spear of the beat scene's takeover of California stands Gaslamp Killer's musical barrages. Deep plunges into psychedelia, head cracking drops, extra terrestrial beats, thick layers of boom bap - the GLK goes all out in each and every one of his heart stopping DJ acts.

Kingdom:

With a trademark sound somewhere in between Timbaland's golden era and the edges of dance music's boundaries, sound chemist Kingdom has seemingly skyrocketed to the top of the list of "Artists to Watch." Always one to create one of the most alluring grooves and take the most enjoyable twists and turns in his sets, rarely will there be someone standing still by the end of the last track he plays.

SBTRKT:

Fresh from the explosion of buzz this artist has received from his incredible debut album, SBTRKT is carving himself a position in electronic music that only someone with the songwriting skills of a pop genius and the dancefloor sensibilities of a seasoned DJ can fill. Still at the very beginning of his career, SBTRKT could very well be on the cuspice of becoming one of the legends in electronic music.

Skream & Benga:

So many years after their debuts, these founding fathers of Dubstep are still performing world class sets showcasing the heaviest and most trendsetting of their genre. Any doubts about the sheer power of dubstep get thrown out the window once these two veterans hit the decks. Skream and Benga are the very heart and soul of dubstep as a creative outlet, and deliver on everything the genre promises year in and year out.

Fatboy Slim:

Not one more word should have to be said about Fatboy Slim. He got Christopher Walken to perform one of the the most amazing dance routines ever to be recorded. Chances are, your favorite DJ hasn't done anything anywhere near that level of "Holy shit."

Kaskade Gets Ready To Drop "Fire & Ice"

Americas number one DJ and producer Kaskade is finally dropping his anticipated new album "Fire & Ice" exclusively on iTunes Oct. 24th and everywhere else Nov. 8th, 2011.  After having an explosive year from headlining Beyond Wonderland to causing the infamous riot-rave in Los Angeles this past summer (Click for review), Turing across the nation with the IDentity Festival crew (Click for review), and recently dropping an incredible set at Nocturnal Wonderland (Click for review). This album is bound to be a fan favorite amongst the new and old Kaskade crowd.

Fire & Ice includes 20 tracks on 2-discs featuring some of Electronic Music's biggest acts, including Dada Life, Skrillex, Quadron, and Dan Black. The album will also feature amazing vocals from Mindy Gledhill, Rebecca & Fiona, Skylar Grey, and of course Haley. After hearing a few "leaked" tracks from the album, we're pretty hyped for it to drop. His first single "Eyes feat. Mindy Gledhill" wasn't a favorite in my iPod this year and to be honest we had a bit of doubts so we pushed it to the side. However, like any good critic we're willing to give it a chance, and give you our opinion. Well, it's pretty good. I'm impressed with Kaskade going back to his Deep House roots and can't wait to hear the full length album on Oct. 24th. Global Dance Electronic recommends you grab this one when it drops. A must have.

"Beats real pretty, but the raps ain't." An interview with Main Attrakionz member Squadda Bambino.

Every last drop of electronic music's creative juice does not mold and turn into the fungi that you hear when you turn on the radio or the television (Flo Rida, we're looking at you). Almost inadvertently, the music of Squadda Bambino and Main Attrakionz have taken and bared the sound and feel of the dreamscapes of the more ambient, less mechanical side of the experimental instrumentals you hear praised all along the blogging front. Though neither member has expressed any particular love or care for electronic music, their production they create and choose for their non-fiction rhymes at sometimes feels as if it was lifted straight out of Non Projects or Alpha Pup's catalog. It's for these reasons, and the fact that we enjoy the living hell out of their music, that we wanted them to put them front and center on a dance music website.

Whether or not you choose to play out trance podcasts or sit at home all day analyzing old gritty New York rap albums, Squadda B's solo work and Main Attrakionz' recent release "808's & Dark Grapes II" have to be heard and vibed to. Both together and alone from one another, MondreMAN and Squadda Bambino have carefully woven a rich artistic style that can be appreciated by anyone with an ear for decency and quality, and it's why I chose to chop it up a bit with Squadda Bambino for GDE.

When Squadda Bambino of drifting-among-the-clouds hip hop duo Main Attrakionz tells you he might not live to see twenty years of life, titles a releases "I Smoke Because I Don't Care About Death", and lambastes 2011 for being "The Fakest Year Ever", you get the feeling you're listening to someone who actually lives what most temperament challenged rappers talk about; you sort of read in between to lines and understand that this is someone who actually lives a day to day struggle at the bottom of the decay-blighted barrel. Not only just that, but that every word this man is speaks is, well, the "truth." It's not a quality you come across often in a day and age where many still take "hip hop" radio stations that almost exclusively play David Guetta productions seriously, but it's something Squadda and Main Attrakionz espouse frequently.

GDE: For those still sleeping, give a synopsis of the type of album your group Main Attrakionz' "808's & Dark Grapes II" is.

A mixed bag of slow slump full of different sounds. Beats real pretty but the raps ain't.

What are you personally trying to accomplish with the music you make? Any particular points you're trying to bring across to the listener?

I want everyone listening to what I listen to while at the same time keeping the listener in tune with what's up with my life at that moment.

Most of the music I hear from you or Main Attrakionz has this sort of dreary, cloudy sound to it. Do you and Mondre intentionally choose and make beats that are a bit different from the normal selection of productions out there or is it a more organic thing where that's just the type of music you two want to rap to?

Definitely organic, if we had tools to sound like everyone else production wise it'd be a problem but at this moment we don't, so you're hearing what works for us 100%.

In many of your raps you come across as someone whose life is on the line with every sentence, whose almost reaching a breaking point. What's the source of all the frustration and despondency that seemingly pours out from all the verses you produce?

That's something that needs a interview on its own, the source is me I never lived a rapper life so if you get frustration or edge of the hill type shit it's cause of whatever influenced that verse or song. Which would be my life, I run out of topics I'm like a reality show rapper minus the scripted events they go through. If you want something different outta Jersey Shore your def gonna turn the channel cause all your gonna get is them 100% nonstop.

That's a rather refreshing and interesting take on rapping. Basically, when you're making a track you're kind of just going whatever direction your stream of consciousness is going? Almost like a journalist just dispatching what's going on as he sees it happen, with no filters?

When I write raps yeah I don't really keep a topic in my head I just write first shit that comes to me. Sometimes I filter myself I dont say people's names but besides that yeah whatever comes up is going on that paper. I don't got no type of imagination past what I want for my future, I can imagine that.

Even a lot of the samples in the music you work on are emotional and touch on melancholy. Do you feel as if you're just at a point in your career where everything's just darker? Or is just all those life experiences bubbling up?

A combo of things bubbling up & me getting used to moving into a different life. Shit been shady ever since I can remember so I'm at a point right now where it's getting better but I'm the same me hanging with the same people. So when things get shady it's higher powered nowadays.

Do you want the music you make, either solo or with Main Attrakionz, to be commercially viable or appealing to mainstream audiences? Or is it something you just hope only those who can really connect and vibe to the music pick up on?

Yeah I'm in the game for different reasons, I wanna be commercially viable but I'm not gonna chase it. Hope my people can put the world on to me because I'm not signing a major label deal until I'm financially set for a label to take a piece out my money. It's definitely money before fame with me, I've been feeling famous for a minute I don't need to feel any more famous. I need to get my money right, I can buy a fan.

Whether it's because of the timing or just an artistic bond of sorts, you seem to be heavily associated with ASAP Rocky and the whole movement moving around him. Do you consider yourself and what you're doing to be kind of like the "west coast counterpart" to the ASAP style of music? Both of you involve yourselves in an musical style that's very narcotic, and tinged with a heavy dreamy quality to it.

Nah ASAP got his own style of rap & what beats he raps on, just cause it's slow don't make it like us. I'd consider us "west coast counterparts" only cause we the closest sounding to him on this side thogh. They good peoples, reached out to us before he started blowing up which is a blessing, all love to the ASAP fam on the east coast.

When it comes to the music you're listening to on a day to day basis, what artists have you been listening to a lot recently and how has that been affecting what you want to do creatively?

Recently? Papoose the only I can think of. Kanye West I watch his studio sessions to see what he has in the studio, I watch Jermaine Dupree's living the life show on youtube I love that shit man success looks good. But musically Papoose. I always been a fan, listened always, it's crazy he was a trending topic for calling himself king of New York. He's definitely top 5 DOA from New York. I'm not over here tryna rap like Papoose but I admire how he makes music.

What are some of the upcoming projects you're working on?

I got my solo Back Sellin Crack coming November, we got a big year coming 2012 lookout for February a lotta classics dropping. MondreM.A.N might drop a solo EP this year we figuring that out, MondreM.A.N & Shady Blaze dropping Loyalty & Royalty II featuring myself and Friendzone on all the beats either end of this year or January.
