It seems this day in age, there is no facet of modern culture untouched by EDM. With the Grammy's having adopted an Electronic Music category and the classic Great Gatsby's theatrical re-imagining having featured Flux Pavilion's tune "I Can't Stop", this upcoming news may not be too surprising. Regardless, it is with great excitement we at GDE are able to announce Walt Disney Records has taken it upon themselves to assemble an all-star EDM cast to remix some Disney classics, entitled 'DConstructed'. While no official tunes have been released, the confirmed roster will include Avicii, Armin Van Buuren, and Mat Zo, with Zo confirming he will remix Elton John's classic "Circle of Life" to massive drum & bass effect.
Keep it locked with GDE for future updates on Disney's 'DConstructed' compilation project, set to release April 22nd.
Skrillex is taking the world by storm with his newly announced Mothership Tour. Bringing along some of the best acts in EDM - Dillon Francis, DJ Snake, What So Not and Milo & Otis. The crew will be hitting up over 20 dates across North America starting this week at SXSW. Teaming up with Red Bull, Skrillex has been in a 10,000 square foot warehouse in Los Angeles creating the perfect stage set up for this tour.
The tour announcement comes with a fun and new twist. The Skrillex team has also released an iPhone and Android app called "Alien Ride" where users must complete missions to unlock 11 (presumably new) tracks. Pick up the app today and purchase your tickets for what will be one of the best tours of the year!

GDE: What was the turning point where this became a career? What obstacles did you need to overcome?
Simon Patterson: This has been a career in some form since the early days. Working behind the scenes and helping other big name djs too. I guess as a solo it's been about 7 years. The turning point was starting to produce. There are always obstacles to overcome, the key is doing what you believe in.
GDE: So you’re on the road a lot, what are 3 things you cant live without on tour?
Simon Patterson: Obvious answers. My phone, laptop and Skype.
GDE: You've been playing in LA for quite some time now, have you noticed any changes in the scene throughout the years?
Simon Patterson: Los Angeles has always been up there for me. People say the US crowd is hard, and that you can't take any risks, but i find it the opposite for me. LA especially. I can play what i want and the crowd trust that what they came to hear will be dropped eventually. I like that. Not many places like LA.
GDE: What is it about Avalon exactly that made you say it was your favorite club?
Simon Patterson: The crowd, the atmosphere, the layout, and the monitors. The people that work there are friendly and a joy. Production is amazing as always.
GDE: In the past year you've diverted into many styles of electronic music, what has driven you to explore with different styles? and do you plan on ever going back to Psy Trance?
Simon Patterson: Never fully go back. I don't want to pigeon hole myself but id say 80% of my sets are psy. I just got bored and needed something new to be inspired to.
GDE: You play a lot of techno in your open up show and in your sets, any plans to do a collaboration with a techno artist? If so, who?
Simon Patterson: The techno scene is pretty clicky. I'd probably do a techno tune under a different name and try and get it released on one of the big labels.
GDE: Is there any genre outside of electronic music that has a big influence on your productions?
Simon Patterson: Yea! Bands influence me a lot. Sigur Rós and so many more.
GDE: Any up and coming producers/djs you believe we should keep an eye out for?
Simon Patterson: Freedom Fighters (Shahaf Efrat) is a great talent.
GDE: Last question. What’s currently playing in Simon Patterson's personal iPod or CD Player?
Simon Patterson: Actually really into Above & Beyond's radio show at the moment. Not the stuff id play, but some really good deep stuff on there. Been listening a lot recently.

Michael Lang, the man who he helped bring the world the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival, is now teaming up with SFX, electronic music promoters, to plan one of the biggest festivals since Woodstock, on the very same grounds. For the first time since Woodstock '94, the bucolic fields of Winston Farms would be filled with crowds and music again — this time dubbed The Hudson Music and Arts Festival. With over 500 artists planned to boast the lineup, this festival is expected to sell over 30,000 tickets, with tickets costing anywhere from $150 to $200 and tentatively planned for this July 10-13 having over 300 security on site.
Expected to attract attendees across all kinds, this festival would have all types of music: hip hop, rock, and EDM. The established artists that are they're looking at are big players such as Skrillex, Bassnectar, Krewella, Madeon, Dillon Francis.
Although nothing's set in stone, Lang has stated he's been having ongoing conversations with artists.
"We're very excited about this," Lang said, adding that more concerts in years to come are a possibility. He said county and state regulators seem to be on board, so far.
The fact that these two powerhouse music companies are coming together is something that should be taken lightly or overlooked. This festival is going to be huge and should it receive the green light, it would be one of the biggest music festivals our generation has seen.
