BREAKING: Feed Me Calls it Quits on DJ'n?

Jon Gooch is the man behind the musical outlets Feed Me and Spor. You may be familiar with Feed Me’s iconic “Teeth” visual display as showcased in his ‘With Teeth’ tour this past summer. Using Twitter as his medium, last night it brought to light he is unsatisfied with DJing and expressed a desire to focus his energy on different artistic outlets, “What I really love doing is making music, art, telling stories; being creative. I don’t want a situation where this becomes a back seat”. While we at GDE commend him on pursuing his personal aspirations, many are saddened to see Gooch leave the decks. He has made a lot of people happy with his work and will not soon be forgotten. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. This could be the start of something beautiful and we are excited to see what he has up his sleeves.

Wendy Williams ridicules Pasquale Rotella's indictment and bashes Electronic Dance Music Culture

Just yesterday, Wendy Williams, a Los Angeles talk show host, had a little rant that involved our dance music community and Insomniac Event’s Founder, Pasquale Rotella. During her roast of various potential paternity guesses, she hit the topic of Holly Madison’s and Pasquale Rotella’s relationship status and Rotella’s current indictment regarding bribery and other charges at the LA Coliseum. Williams commented on Rotella’s career stating that he was throwing ‘rave parties’ that catered to over 90,000 people and illicit drug activities.

“Pasquale was allegedly using the money to throw rave parties at the LA Coliseum. Most of you are well acquainted with rave parties... these rave parties are huge with the kids, they take drugs. I mean the loopy doopy, listening to repetitive music, like the EHH EHHH EHHH!”

It seems highly hypocritical for her to bash on the two future love birds, when she herself experienced her own failures in marriage. But Williams hit a low blow when she had to bring our music and culture into the picture, mocking the music we love to hear through her ridiculous onomatopoeias. Did she not just interview Trance legend, Armin Van Buuren a few weeks ago?

Hard Dance icon Lady Faith had this to say after she saw Wendy Williams’ show:

So, once again as dance music remains in the mainstream spotlight, we are bound to see more ridicule and bashing from outsiders on our scene and lifestyle. Don’t let them tread. Rave on, GDE, rave on.

Tittsworth and Willy Jo present "BAWSE" (Free Download)

Tittsworth and Willy Joy brought out the big guns for their huge production collaboration together, a bootleg of Rick Ross, ‘Bawse.’ In their brand release, Bawse, The two bass music heavyweights showcased their production skills incorporating eclectic drum patterns and outrageous jungle synths that will stir up the massives in a full-fledge primal frenzy. Bawse homogenizes different elements of dance music style that help tear down the walls that would otherwise box this song up in any sort of characterless genre.

Big ups on the successful collaboration. Tittsworth and Willy Joy are definitely keeping the rave alive through their jungle sounds.

Global Dance Electronic Interviews Cosmic Gate on the Wake Your Mind 'Deluxe Edition' Album

GDE: Wake Your Wind’ has been perhaps your most successful album release to date. How would you say your latest work compares and contracts to some of your earlier releases like ‘Rhythm and Drums,’ ‘Earth Mover,’ ‘Sign of The Times,’ and your ‘Back To The Future’ compilation?

Cosmic Gate:
  • In between our first album Rhythm and Drums and wake Your Mind its 13 years, more than a decade, and of course the sound listening to both albums is totally different. We think this is a good fact though, it’s only a very natural progress in the development of a group when sounds develop! In general, if you listen from one of our albums to the next, there is always something different, we add something new, progress in our production skills, the production process might change, but in the end it is always us, always Cosmic gate, if on 138 beats per minute on the more harder edge of Trance when we started, or nowadays on 128 bpm with a more progressive kind of overall feel.

GDE: ‘Wake Your Mind' is a very moving and thought provoking album title. Why did you decided to give the album this name, and to whom you suggest, through your music to “Wake their Mind?”

Cosmic Gate:
  • We like it when people are open minded in general, and for us as producers specially when it comes to music, and of course even more when it comes to our own productions. Wake Your Mind has a lot of different styles and influences brought together in one album, and we were hoping people follow us in our ideas that a trance/edm album simply can sound different to how most other albums do, this was the background to the idea calling it Wake Your Mind.

GDE: The ‘Remix Your Mind’ portion of the deluxe album features 12 brilliant re works from ‘Wake Your Mind.’ What was the process you went through when selecting this all-star cast of remixers?

Cosmic Gate:
  • This process lasted for a long time, as we were selecting remixers always when it was about to release a new single. In general we like to chose remixers whose songs we play out a lot in our sets, of course we have some big name remixers on it, but we also search for upcoming new talents all the time, guys we think could do a good job, and we think they all did amazingly well in remixing our music.

GDE: These 12 new remixes defiantly seem to hit harder and are more club friendly. How have they worked in your sets as of late?

Cosmic Gate:
  • Original songs specially when getting produced for an album release are simply not made only or at first for the dancefloor, that’s why remixes most of the time simply are harder and more club orientated. We play the remixes a lot in our sets for sure, always fun to hear what other producers make out of our first ideas.

GDE: When you heard the finished product of these remixes, did any other them leave you wondering, “Why didn’t we think of that?”

Cosmic Gate:
  • Of course, a remixer always has a total different and fresh view on a song, and that’s why new ideas get into a song and sometimes make it better, or at least make it sound new and fresh, or simply as good as the original, but  just in a different way. As said before, we have been lucky with the work our remixers have done for sure, being responsible with their great work for the success of WYM Deluxe as much as we are with the original song writing.

GDE: Can you elaborate a little more on the multimedia portion on the deluxe album? What kind of behind the scenes access to we get to view on this portion?

Cosmic Gate:
  • Of course, the Wake Your Mind Deluxe Editions features 9 additional remixes. The Itunes Deluxe Edition includes also an iTunes LP, which contains further fan bonus material like all music clips of the singles, countless live photos from our WYM World Tour, a screenplayer you can turn on while the music is playing etc etc

GDE: Even through all the changes that are currently happening in the EDM world, you guys have stood by the core foundations that have made Cosmic Gate what it is today, as seen through ‘Wake Your Mind.’ What is your philosophy when it comes to making sure you stay true to your sound?

Cosmic Gate:
  • We simply go to the studio and have fun, produce music that we like, not blindly follow trends that are around, put emotions and heart into our songs, so it is always us and our sound in the end! Of course we change too, it would be boring if we wouldn’t, but the overall feel and handwriting is always ours, it will always sound like Cosmic Gate in the end, even if beats or feels change from album to album.
